Bargaining Units and Unions
Resources about bargaining units and unions within the system as well as readings relating to these issues and more are found in this section.

Faculty in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system are assigned to one of four bargaining units.

 They are:
  • State University Instructional (contract link)
    This bargaining unit is comprised of the instructional faculty members at all of Minnesota’s state universities (excluding the University of Minnesota.) This bargaining unit has approximately 2900 faculty members and is represented by the Inter-Faculty Organization (IFO).

  • Community College Instructional (contract link)
    This bargaining unit consists of faculty members at all of Minnesota’s community colleges. The community college faculty unit contains approximately 1200 employees who are represented by the Minnesota State College Faculty (MSCF).

  • Technical College Instructional (contract link)
    This bargaining unit includes approximately 2500 faculty members who are represented by the Minnesota State College Faculty (MSCF).

  • State University Administrative Unit (contract link)
    This bargaining unit includes the administrative, non-instructional faculty within Minnesota’s state university system (excluding the University of Minnesota.) The bargaining unit consists of approximately 500 employees who are represented by the Minnesota State University Association of Administrative and Service Faculty/ Teamsters (MSUAASF).
